“You Will Never Be One of Us” Nails

The Band

The band formed in 2009. They have since released three full-length albums and two EPs. As of June 2014, the band is signed to Nuclear Blast. They released their third album, You Will Never Be One of Us, on June 17, 2016.

On July 25th 2016, the band cancelled its European tour with promoters claiming the band were on a hiatus. This also led to cancelling their appearance at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest. Todd Jones later clarified that they were never in a hiatus. In December 2016, the band will be playing at The Power of the Riff festival and will release a split 7″ with Full of Hell.

The Good

This album is fucking brutal. It just does not let off of the gas. They tease with the idea of going up for air, but don’t let your guard down: just when you’re thinking they might be letting up, they fucking floor it. Just picturing these guys on a stage destroys me, and I cannot wait!

Everything about this album excites me. Seriously. I am pumped. The monstrous energy these guys put into this music can be felt from start to finish, and it is addictive. There’s nothing entirely technical here – no fancy solos or drum fills – but that doesn’t take from the immense sound these guys put out. I cannot impress enough on how incredible this album is.

The Bad

Fans of hardcore punk bands may be able to pick out that I’m not so involved in this community, but this band may just change that for me, and I urge other metal heavy heads to also check it out. Despite the aggression that goes into Nails’ music, the trio create a sound that is smooth and easy to listen to. So often with heavy music the chaos becomes too much to bear, and the sound is lost: that is far from the case here. The recording is flawless and the production ties everything together perfectly.

Last Words

If you hadn’t already guessed it, this album gets a massive 10/10 from me. I really cannot say enough positive words (and I’m really trying). I am so impressed and an instant fan. Nails, if you’re reading this, please come to Nebraska. We are starving over here. Don’t forget to check out other music reviews on The EXP Grind.

This band is sick. The guitar and the drums are fast, and consistent. Their live shows must be intense as hell. I would be hella scared of these moshpits.
