Arc System Works is one of the premiere fighting game developers in the world with the widely popular Guilty Gear and BlazBlue franchises and the smash hit Dragon Ball FighterZ as their main claims to fame. However, the president of Arc System Works, Minoru Kidooka, will not be playing one of his studio’s titles, as he will be entering this year’s Evolution Championship Series as a competitor in the Nintendo favorite Super Smash Bros. Melee.
A poll was conducted by the developer and asked fans which game they wanted to see Minoru Kidooka compete in at EVO 2018, and the classic Nintendo fighting game came out the winner with 1,908 votes.
The results of the four other nominated games are as follows:
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition – 832 votes
Tekken 7 – 744 votes
Super Smash Bros. for Wii u – 435 votes
Injustice 2 – 319 votes
Surprisingly none of the titles in the EVO 2018 lineup developed by Arc System Works made it into the top five of the poll. With Minoru Kidooka being the president of the developer, it is possible that voters wanted to see him play a game that he had no hand in creating to help spice things up a bit.
Evo 2018 will be taking place between August 3rd and 5th, and Minoru Kidooka will have a tall task in front of him if he is going to defeat the giants in the Melee professional scene. However, If there was one Cinderella story to rally for at the event, it would be seeing the head of Arc System Works making a magical run at the largest fighting game tournament in esports.
