2015 past by so quickly for me. I’m happy that I was able to catch some of my favorite anime for the year despite working at a small cellphone company. I can remember trying to download anime at work and when I had days off to the point where it feels like it was just yesterday. One thing that a few people here at EXP can tell you, is that I love anime. It’s been a big influence in my life since the age of three. So, without a due here are my top 10 anime of 2015.
1. Plastic Memories (Spring 2015)
Plastic Memories takes place in the not to far future when androids that look like human begins spread across the world. SA Corp., an android production company produce Giftia, a kind of android that has emotional and human-like qualities. Due to a problem in technology, the androids have a service life and once they past that day things get pretty bad for the android and the person who asked for the android. SA Corp. created a terminal service which retrieve Giftia that have past their service date. Tsukasa Mizugaki, a new employee in terminal service, is partnered with Isia, an Giftis close to her service date.
Plastic Memories has a lot of touching and great moments. A lot which have left me wanting to see more of this anime then the rest on this list. If you haven’t seen it yet I would highly recommend that you do.
2. Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka (Spring 2015)
Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka or as its known in the US, Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon. Is a story that takes place in the town full of labyrinths, Orario or Dungeon. A newbie adventurer, Bell Cranels, is one day attacked by a Minotaur during his adventure. A top-class female adventure, Aizu Wallenstein, saves him and it is love at first sight, well for Bell it is. Together with Hestia, a lolita god whom is deeply in love with Bell, try to make him a high level adventure like Aizu.
I’ll get this out of the way now, I really enjoy romantic anime. Don’t ask why, but its just something that I enjoy watching. You’ll get a romance and fantasy feel from this anime. I stumbled upon the first three episodes and instantly fell in love with the series. I also really like Hestia as a character and sorta wished there was more development between Hestia and Bell. I just hope they don’t end the series with a harem ending.
3. Gakkou Gurashi! (Summer 2015)
Don’t let the cuteness of this anime denture you from watching it. The story revolves around four girls whom live at their school. Yuki, Rumi, Rurii, and Megu, find themselves as the final survivors in a zombie attack, and continue to live out there lives at the school, for the time being. Gakkou Gurashi, is full of light hearted and dark moments, making this anime a must watch if your into zombie apocalyptic worlds. The manga and anime are different, so keep that in mind when reading the manga and watching the anime.
When I first heard about Gakkou Gurashi I literally thought, “Well here we go. Another cutesy anime.” I was so happy to be wrong. When I started watching I couldn’t stop. It felt like Magica Madoka all over again. Nice characters, but god does it get dark quick.
4. Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider (Fall 2015)
Souhei Saikawa, a member of the Saikawa Research Lab, Moe Nishinosono, the daughter of his mentory. Go on vacation being held by the lab along with a few other students, despite Moe not being apart of the lab. When the two reach the lab they come across a corpse. They must solve the mysteries of what has become a serial murder case.
One thing I can say about this anime with out ruining much is, pay attention to what your being told and get ready for a big twist. I remember watching the whole series over again to see where I was wrong and what I missed. And seeing what you missed helps a lot. For some reason it made me want to play through Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, I guess it’s because a part of me really enjoyed in the mystery aspect and trying to put all the pieces to the puzzle together.
5. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Winter 2015)
Ansatsu Kyoushitsu or Assassination Classroom is about the students of class E-3 have a mission: kill their teacher before they graduate. Koro-sensei has already destroyed half the moon and is promising to destroy the Earth if his students cant kill him with in a year. How can these misfit kids kill a tentacled monster with the ability to reach Mach 20 speed? How will they be able to part ways with their best teacher?
I first caught the trailer for Assassination Classroom off Crunchyroll and it felt like Danganronpa without the mystery. I can really recommend this to anyone wanting to watch a nice and funny anime. There is still a lot of things on my mind about this anime, but I’m sure over time they will be answered.
6. Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai (summer 2015)
16 years after the “Law for Public Order and Morals in Healthy Child-Raising” banning coarse language in the country. Tanukichi Okuma, enrolls in to the country’s leading elite public morals school. Tanukichi is then soon blackmailed by Ayame Kajou, a very perverted girl mind you, into joining SOX (Anti-Societal Organization). He joins and takes part in very obscene acts of terrorism against Anna, the talented student council president and Tanukichi’s crush.
This anime if full of perverted things and its one funny anime to watch without a doubt. I mean come on, who doesn’t like watching a few perverted girls, one who’s hair do looks like a
&#@!$. I found myself laughing a lot and saving a lot of .gifs from this.
7. Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata (Winter 2015)
Tomoyo Aki is a highschool otaku working part time to support his lifestyle. One day he bumps into, Megumi Kato, a beautiful girl he has never seen before. The meeting changes his life into complicated relationships. Along with Eriri Spencer Sawamura, his half-foreigner childhood friend, and Kasumigaoka Utaha, a cold and composed literature genius, deccied to make a visual novel designed around Tomoyo’s encounter with Megumi. The series follows them on there adventure to selling the game at Comiket and along the way Tomoyo teaches Megumi on how to be a proper main heroine.
Really great anime and I’m hoping they will create a second season. Also just a little side note. Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata also has a game for the PS Vita that was released April 30, 2015, only in Japan.
8. One Punch Man (Fall 2015)
Saitama is a super hero who has trained so hard that over the years his hair fell out. He can defeat an enemy in one punch and has found him self bored and frustrated at the idea that there is no one stronger then him. Along with Genos, the two deiced to join the Heroes Association in order to gain the recognition as heroes. Saitama struggles at gaining the respect her deserves, as most people look down an him due to his simple and plain physical appearance, and some even accuse him of being a fake hero.
My brother is on his first viewing of One Punch Man. It was recommend to him by his friends and by myself. He finds it really funny and you can catch him snickering a lot more. My brother isn’t into anime, but he does watch a few series when hes not busy trying to beat his best time in a Video Game.
9. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Summer 2015)
On August 20XX, a portal from another world appears in Ginza, Tokyo. A army of soldiers and monsters emerge to attack the city. Thanks to the advanced weaponry and tactics of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), they where able to repel the enemy. Yoji Itami is a JSDF officer sent to investigate the other world. Upon arriving he is treated to a Roman-styled empire where magic, dragons and elves are real. Yoji must use his knowledge of fantasy stories to traverse this now world.
If you’ve read the manga to Gate or are still reading it you pretty much know where some of the things that happen will lead. So for those who haven’t read the manga be prepaid this story is only going to get better. And at the moment this will be one of my major buys when the whole series comes out on Blu-ray/DVD.
10. Kangoku Gakuen Prison School (Summer 2015)
Hachimitsu Private Academy, was once an elite all-girls’ boarding school on the outskirts of Tokyo. Till the new school year started a revision was made to the school policy: Boys are to be admitted into the student body for the first time. Kiyoshi Fujino, on his first day discovers that he is one out of five other boys enrolled at the school. Outnumbered by the girls could this be there heaven or hell?
Kangoku Gakuen Prison School has a lot of funny moments and will leave you laughing way more then it should.
There you go my children, my top 10 anime of 2015. I know I left out a few other anime I really enjoyed, but I tried to appease all type of anime fans here with this list. If there’s an anime you would recommend or didn’t see on this list please leave it in the comment section. If you haven’t seen any of these anime then please visit Crunchyroll. And I leave you with this image from Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai. I wanted to put a .gif here from the anime, but it would’ve been very inappropriate.
