Before we head into the top 5 anticipated/favorite anime of Summer 2016, let me say a few things. First, instead of this just being my top 5 anticipated anime, I decided to ask r/anime what their most anticipated anime was. A * next to the anime’s name represents redditor’s choice. I plan on doing another post on the sub for the most anticipated anime of fall 2016, so keep an eye out for that.
Second thing: sorry this top 5 was posted late I have been busy with my other job and a few things came up. I really haven’t found much time till today to type this all out. Hopefully the next few weeks are a lot better and I can find some time to write a few more articles. Now onto the top 5 anticipated/favorite anime of Summer 2016.
I. Orange *
Takamiya Naho receives a mysterious letter one day, sent from her eleven years in the future. The letter tells her about a new transfer student names Naruse Kakeru, who will be in her class and that she should keep an eye on him. Her decision to take the letters cryptic warning seriously or not will determine not only her future, but also Kakeru’s future.
It was pretty hard for me to summarize this anime, I tried my best. Honestly I didn’t know about this anime till someone on reddit brought it up. I’ve seen the first episode and so far I like where it’s going. Orange is considered to be a romance anime, so you can definitely bet I’m going to be reviewing this anime at some point. I also know a few people who would be interested in sitting down and watching this along side me. I can’t wait to hear what are their thoughts on Orange.
II. Amaama to Inazuma
Kouhei Inuzuka, a math teacher, is trying his best to raise his young Daughter Tsumugi as a single father. He’s not that good at cooking and isn’t really fond of eating a lot of food. One day as they take a walk in the park to watch the cherry blossoms, Tsumugi notices a girl on her own crying. Its, Kotori, one of Kouhei’s students. Kotori tells Tsumugi that the bento she was eating was meant for two and that she managed to eat the whole thing by herself. She wasn’t crying because she was alone, but because the food was good, she then hands a card to Kouhei. After a few events Kouhei and Tsugmugi end up at Kotori’s mother’s restaurant, but Kototi’s mother isn’t around and Kotori trys to cook something for them. Kotori then asks Kouhei if they’d like to meet up with her and learn to cook.
Long summary, I’m sure you can tell I’m really into this anime at the moment.
III. Danganronpa 3: Marai-Hen/Zetsubou-Hen *
This one is going to be hard to summarize. I put both Danganronpa anime into one slot, because both of them are sequels to their respective games. Danganronpa 3: Marai-Hen will be following the story from the characters of Hope’s Peak Academy. While Danganronpa 3: Zetsubou-Hen will be telling the story from the Remnants of Despair. Both these anime will be airing at the same time, which I will admit is a little interesting to me. Where do they plan on taking these two anime.
The other thing I want to point out is that from the cover/poster art you can clearly make out a few new characters that weren’t in the games. For those of you interested in this anime it’s going to be a run ride. And for those who just heard about Danganronpa I would strongly suggest to go play the games either before watching this or alongside it.
IV. Shokugeki No Souma: Ni no Sara *
This is the continuation of Food Wars, it takes place during the quarterfinal of the Autumn Elections.
I’m not really going to summarize the plot of Food Wars here, I will be doing that in a review later on. Reason being is that EXP Grind wasn’t a thing till a few months back, so Food Wars was done airing at the time. It’s good to see that this anime will be continuing since it seems like a lot of anime from last year was sorta just dropped off from the lack of views and sales in Japan. But for those of you who haven’t heard of this anime head on over to Crunchyroll and marathon it. Trust me, you’ll enjoy it.
This adorable banana cat is a mascot to the stationary company Q-Lia. The T.V. short introduces Bananya and a few of his friends in their daily lives.
I know this isn’t really an anime series per se, and more of a TV short, but I felt like there was no way not to add this. It sorta of came out of now where for me and was also brought up in the Reddit post I made. Decided to look it up and it was the most adorable thing I’ve seen in months. Showed it to my mother, sisters, and brother, all who have different tastes in anime and we all seemed to enjoy it.
Where the hell is Berserk? Well let me just say that it will be getting its own review here very shortly.
For more anime reviews stay tuned to the EXP Grind.
